OUR STORY
Since 1903, a family story of craftsmanship.
It all began in 1903, when Désiré Smidts left to work in Lille for Mr Lacquemant. There, he learned the craft and made waffles. He later returned to Liège and decided to create his own thin waffle, filled with a syrup delicately flavoured with orange blossom. In tribute to his former employer, he named it the lacquemant, and called his brand Désiré de Lille. Today, to honour his legacy, our new international brand bears his name: Mr Smidts.
It was in 1903 that the lacquemant was born.
Passed down from generation to generation, this Belgian know-how has shaped the identity of our house.
More than a recipe, it is a tradition, a gesture, a family legacy that has endured for over 120 years.
